Native Plants

We are lucky that the Maryland, DC, and Virginia region is home to many beautiful native plants, trees, grass, and shrubs. Building a native garden is a growing trend not only because homeowners take a lot of pride in their community and home state but native plants are more likely to resist diseases and pests and live longer lives. They usually need less water and thrive in the unique climate of the DMV. Some of the more popular plants are:

  • Black-Eyed Susans (Rudbeckia hirta)
  • Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis)
  • Christmas Fern (Polystichum acrostichoides)
  • Threadleaf Blue Star (Amsonia hubrichtii)
  • Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
  • Tickseed (Coreopsis Zagreb)

Yellow, orange, and purple Gerbera DaisiesNot only are we lucky that we have such beautiful native plants, flowers, trees, shrubs, and grass in our Mid-Atlantic region, but these plants also help serve a greater purpose. Local plants can help the greater community by helping local animals thrive by producing nectar for bees and homes for birds.
